Hispanic Chamber members in their three-minute speed networking meetings, Wednesday night at Tlaquepaque Restaurant in Placentia. Carlos Muniz, owner of My De 2 Print in Orange, explains how speed networking will work before the first session begins. Orange County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce members up before the first-ever speed networking event begins at Tlaquepaque Restaurant in Placentia.
Members sat around two long tables at Tlaquepaque Restaurant in Old Town Placentia, meeting new faces and potential business partners or clients. After the ding of a bell sounded, people shuffled around like a game of musical chairs to sit in front of the next member.
After the first round, people realized just how quick speed networking is, and how loud it can get with so many people having conversations at once. Mike Limon, chamber membership manager, said the idea for speed networking started about two months ago when members were asking for new ways to talk about their businesses.
A weekly planning committee soon developed the idea, modeled after the popular speed dating concept, Limon said. Members received a sheet with questions asking what service or product they offer, or to describe their ideal client — to help with the time constraint.
LLP in Irvine, came out to meet other O. I met enough people that could possibly need ing services. After the event came to a close, people were encouraged to meet with one another, especially those who made a connection.
Rosalina Davis, owner of Tlaquepaque Restaurant and Placentia Chamber of Commerce president-elect, was glad to see the success of the event. The Hispanic Chamber has regular mixers and plans to have another speed networking session in the future.
